CLEAR LAKE - Graham Nash, The Crickets and Los Lobos are among the entertainers coming to the Surf Ballroom for the "50 Winters Later" tribute concert on Monday, Feb. 2.

Tickets for the event are $85 each and go on sale at 8 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15. Tickets can be purchased at www.50winterslater.com or by calling the Surf Ballroom box office at 641 357-6151.

Seating for the event will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis with a 4 person booth costing $40 and a 6 person booth costing $60. A minimum ticket purchase is required to reserve seating, with 4 tickets needed to reserve a 4 person booth and 6 tickets needed to reserve a 6 person booth. Due to space limitations, no tables will be placed on the dance floor for this show.

The event honors Buddy Holly, J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson and Ritchie Valens who were killed in a plane crash north of Clear Lake on Feb. 3, 1959 following a concert at the Surf Ballroom. Pilot Roger Peterson was also killed in the crash which happened shortly after the plane took off from the Mason City Airport.

Other entertainers lined up to perform at 50 Winters Later include Bobby Vee, Los Lonely Boys, Joe Ely, Sir Tim Rice, Tommy Allsup, J.P. "Little Bopper" Richardson Jr., Sandra Boynton and Wanda Jackson. Additional artists will be announced in the coming weeks, according to a press release.

"Many of our invited artists will be paying homage to these three stars who influenced music so deeply that musicians and songwriters continue to this day to be inspired and attribute aspects of their musical careers to them," said Surf entertainment director Shane Cooney.  "This event is truly about the music and the legacy of Buddy, Ritchie and The Bopper. It's truly going to be an extraordinary show-even to be in the Surf and near that same stage played on five decades ago is magical in itself."

This tribute concert is expected to air nationally as part of the 2009 Public Broadcasting Service television season.
