Marital Status / Partner's Name / Children: I married Terry Schultz aboard a cruise ship in the Caribbean in 1996 and we combined our families. My daughter Tami Perkins lives in Bradenton, FL with children Dominick and KaCee and son Todd Anderson and children Rhiannon and Alexzander are in Stuart, IA. Terry's son Bryan Schultz and wife Jackie are in Marion, IA and Brett Schultz and wife Michelle have 2 children Erik and Ashlyn and live in Liberty, MO. When we married, we sold both of our homes and purchased a townhouse-now someone else mows and shovels and if we want to travel we just shut the door and leave for parts unknown!
Working / Retired? Activities you enjoy: I retired after 21 years with AAA in February 2008 and haven't decided what I'll do "when I grow up". I was Corporate Store Manager for travel and insurance in West Des Moines and Marshalltown. Terry and I also have a private tour group that we host annually to exciting parts of the world and I continue to escort tour groups for AAA. There are so many "Wonders of our World" to experience-I've walked the Great Wall of China and marveled at the Xian Warriors, sailed the Caribbean, Yangtze and Mediterranean, walked the cemeteries in Gettysburg and Little Big Horn, stood on the Beaches of Normandy and was chilled to the bone during the Iditarod in Alaska. I am looking forward to spending summers back at the lake cottage with the grandchildren, a good mystery, glass of wine and my gardens. This is also a great location to run into school friends and get caught up on their lives-everyone returns to the lake sooner or later.
Here goes "Memory Lane"---selling Girl scout cookies and calendars (no matter when you got to Wilcox funeral home she bought from all of us in the neighborhood), School Safety Patrol (loved the belts and badges), slumber parties, band and choir trips with my mother as chaperone, walking around the lake or to Fertile to prove we could do it, swimming lessons at Red Cross Beach and what a long swim out to the diving board, confirmation class and having to show up for choir practice at Zion, riding your bike for hours on end, Baskett's on Saturday night, large twist cones at Folkman's Dairy and how the CL Bakery smelled, sodas at the Corner Drug and taking the bus to Mason on Saturday for a quarter to eat pizza at Vic's, HiTri formals and after Prom parties, the annual Pet Parade and bargains at Ridiculous Days, the Barrel and Lighthouse drive-ins, Lake Crest french fries & The Ritz onion rings, riding the garden club float in the 4th of July parade, The Princess, Homecoming bonfires and snake-dances through town, ice skating and the warming house a the end of main street on the lake, Clearview and Silver Boot roller rinks and teen dances at the surf....
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid sideways, champagne in one hand - strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming WOO HOO - WHAT A RIDE !"
We all grew up in a town where country and city blended and we made new "summer friends" when the school year ended -- not all are so lucky and blessed. Enjoy your memories...
