My life since 1957 I completed x-ray training at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Mason City, Iowa and worked as a technician at McFarlane Clinic in Ames, Ia., Peralta Hospital in Oakland, Ca., and at the county morgue in Martinez, Ca., where I set up the x-ray department. I worked for several years as a bookkeeper for a Coca Cola distributor and for Dole Packaged Foods, where I was the International Transportation Manager (managing shipments of our canned pinapple from canneries in Thailand and the Philippines to our warehouse in the U.S.)
I married Jim Sage in 1958 (we divorced in 1993). We have 4 daughters, Barbara- a legal secretary in San Francisco (married, no children), Margie, mother of Chelsi in Carlsbad, Ca., Deborah, mother of Adam and Melanie in Santa Clarita, Ca., And Dyan, mother of Allison and Cate in Newbury Park, Ca. All are 'treasures'.
Dole was very good for me, not only did I have a job I loved but I retired and married my boss in 2001!! I was diagnosed with breast cancer shortly after we were married but we fought that battle together, along with the wonderful support from family and friends. I will be a cancer survivor in November, 2006.
My Life Now: My favorite days are when we get together with the family and our friends. Between us we have 5 daughters, a son, their spouses, 7 grandchildren and 6 dogs! All of them live in California or Nevada so not too far away. I belong to an organization (P.E.O.) that supports women in education; I volunteer in our church office and am also an elder; and we belong to a group called Double Duffers; yes, it's a golf group who plays golf once a month and has lunch following the tournament. I also work Saturday mornings as a fitness technician at Curves. And when I'm not busy with other activities, there's always house/yard/garden work!
What classmates have you kept in contact with? I email regularly with Nancy Noll Elliott and Jack MacDonald, but I have also communicated with several others. I'd love to hear from other classmates and would be happy to help to find others.
Hobbies: I love to read, go to movies (eat popcorn) and work in my garden. I've crocheted baby afgans and am slowly learning to knit but for some reason I can use a crochet hook much better than knitting needles!
Favorite Song of 1957 or earlier; I liked so many, 'Love is a Many Spendored Thing', ShaBoom, Dream, Three Coins in the Fountain. We have a 50s and a 60s CD that we exercise to at Curves and they are two of my favorites. Good music!
