Clear Lake- Mary Jo Stevens, 68 died Tuesday August 21, 2007, at the Muse-Norris Inpatient Hospice Unit, Mason City.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 A.M. Saturday, August 25, 2007, at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church 1001 9th Ave South, Clear Lake, with Monsignor Joseph J. Slepicka and Deacon John Ayers officiating. Inurnment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake.
Visitation will be held Friday from 5-7 p.m. with a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. at the Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel 101 North 4th Street. Clear Lake.
Memorials may be directed to the Mary Jo Stevens Memorial Fund, Hospice of North Iowa, and American Cancer Society, for cancer research.
Mary Jo Christensen was born July 2, 1939, in Mason City, the daughter of Herbert and Eleanor (Sobiekski). She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1957, later attending the University of Iowa. Mary Jo was united in marriage to Gerald E. Stevens; to this union four daughters were born. On April 1, 1972, they purchase the Half Moon Restaurant. After their divorce, Mary Jo continued to own and run the business. She then met her life companion Paul Reichardt, with whom she enjoyed many years together. They enjoyed traveling, reading, playing cards and golfing.
Mary Jo loved playing bridge, shopping and watching the “Golden Girls”. Her greatest love was spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters Annette Stevens, Burlington, Debbie (Jeff) Heine, Clear Lake, Joan Stevens, Fayette and Kathy (Bryan) Nielsen, San Diego, CA; life companion Paul Reichardt, Clear Lake, sister Pat (Vern) Severson, Clear Lake, grandchildren Alyssa (Nathan) Groom, Urbana, Erinn Heine, Clear Lake, Kelsey and Kira Nielsen, San Diego, CA, Paul’s children Lori (Bill) Wreghitt, Ventura, Melanie Huckins, Mason City, Brent Reichardt, South Korea, Jeff Reichardt, Garner, Paul’s grandchildren Kelli and Steven Wreghitt, Ventura, Sara Reichardt, Germany, Justin and Emily Huckins, Mason City; along with nieces, other relatives and friends.
Mary Jo is preceded in death by her parents and Paul’s son Todd Reichardt.
