After graduation in 1957 I attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa for one semester. It was there that I decided I wanted to become an elementary teacher so I transferred to Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI) in Cedar Falls. I graduated with a four year degree in Elementary Education in the summer of 1960. While there I met Arnie and we were married in the summer of 1961. I taught second grade in Humboldt, Cedar Falls and Grundy Center, Iowa before becoming a stay-at-home mom after the kids were born. We have two children, Jeff and Susie. We have always lived in Iowa (Cedar Falls, Grundy Center, Rockford, Rudd, Clarion, Alden and now Ames where we have been for 20 years).
I have had several careers over the years including teaching, tutoring, substitute teaching, owner of a garden center and gift shop and for 20 years I worked for a farm management and real estate company doing all the paper work associated with listings, sales and closings of farm property. I really enjoyed the challenge of this last job.
My life now:
I am retired now and just enjoy being retired - especially not having to wake up to an alarm clock every morning. We enjoy seeing our children and one granddaughter. Our son Jeff is single and lives in Kansas City. Our daughter Susie and her husband Scott live in West Des Moines. Our granddaughter Kelsey is in eighth grade this year. Arnie is still working for Midwest Coaches in Ames where he does bookwork and drives charter buses occasionally.
My hobbies are landscaping, gardening and following Iowa State University sports.
I would love to start some e-mail connections with my classmates I have lost contact with over the years. I am not a very good letter writer. But I do LOVE our class reunions. I havenít missed one yet!
My favorite song of 1957: Too many to pick just one.
